Magnetic Audio Devices (MAD™) planar magnetic array systems were used as the primary speaker systems for the past two years at "Broadway on Broadway", an annual event in New York City. The event, which takes place in the heart of Times Square, highlights live musical numbers from each of sixteen Broadway shows. Approximately 70,000 attended the event, which was taped for broadcast. New York’s PRG coordinated production for the show, and sound Designer Lew Mead, working with PRG’s Gary Hardesty, selected the MAD Surface Array™ A9 elements for the main left-right arrays. With the stage positioned between two skyscrapers, and the expectation of a critical and knowledgeable audience, the primary aspects of the design demanded the ability to flexibly control the horizontal and vertical coverage patterns while providing state-of-the-art system fidelity.

The MAD A9 array elements utilize line array physics to provide both vertical and horizontal pattern control. Packed and transported in sets of four rows, the crews were able to quickly rig and fly the two twelve-element systems. The event’s Production Coordinator, Keith DeVerna, was impressed by the load-in. "I have to say; it is the easiest sound system I have ever had the pleasure of dealing with. The concept of the array makes it simple and manageable in a timetable that calls for quick installation, in effect saving money in labor costs."
